Plot: Alan Johnson has everything he needs to get through life: a good job, a beautiful and loving wife, and their wonderful children. Yet he feels isolated because he finds having a hard-working job and managing a family too much to handle and has no one to talk to about it. Charlie Fineman, on the other hand, doesn’t have a job or a family. He used to have both until a terrible loss, and the grief caused him to quit his job and isolate himself from everyone around him. As it turns out, Alan and Charlie were roommates in college, and a chance encounter one night rekindles the friendship they shared. But when Charlie’s problems become too much to deal with, Alan is determined to help Charlie come out of his emotional abyss.

Common factors in genocides – politics?
Out of the following genocides, which have causes that can be attributed to differences in politics (such as Communism vs. Democracy), and what are they? I don’t need a huge, in depth explanation, but a few sentences on each would really help.

Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, the Holomdor (Ukranian forced famine), the current genocide in Darfur, Pol Pot’s reign in Cambodia, and Rwanda.
I understand that there have been other genocides.. I need specifically to know about the ones I stated. Stalin is the reason behind the Holodomor (which I spelt so wrong the first time -.-") so I didn’t forget him.
AGAIN. I am not saying that some things happening right now aren’t genocides. I just need to know about the ones that I’ve listed. PLEASE don’t make this a way to push your agenda; it’s incredibly annoying, no matter how good your intentions are.

Over the last few months new milestones have been reached. The war’s duration has surpassed that of WWII and the American casualty count has surpassed our losses from the attack on September 11, 2001. Furthermore, the conflict’s statistics have not shown any sign of improvement, and in fact have deteriorated. The happy talk neo-cons are pulling their shoes out of their mouths.
But, even as they concede that things are not going well, they continue to espouse rhetoric of winning, victory, defeat, and the need to continue. Even after the Iraq Study Group has recommended re-deployment, even after the generals on the ground have recommended re-deployment (now of course they’re being replaced), and even after the November 7, 2006 mid-term election clearly delivered the message for a change in strategy (i.e. re-deployment), George W. Bush has decided to do exactly the opposite. After all we’ve put up with from this schmuck who stole two presidential elections, Dubya has thumbed his nose at the American people and the rest of the world by ordering a further build-up of troops in Iraq.

All though no one likes to talk about it, the genocide of Native Americans at the hand of the United States government.

As one said here it is the consolidation of power. But why is power desireable? Power is sought as it manifests in control of resources. Control of resources is the cause of every conflict that ever occurred on this earth.

Some will blame religion as another prime cause or race or some other such thing. But these things are the motivating factors that are manipulated by those seeking power in order to recruit the support of the population for their actions.

Let me ask a question. How come Israel’s constant attack on Palestine in all these years and the killing of so many Palestinians who are trying to defend their own land isn’t considered genocide?

Qui: No, it’s not a joke. It’s a homework question. Lol.

I’m always surprised that you guys can’t recognize them by the wording.

nationalist "with us or against us mentality" while the world gave a free pass while leaders directed the masses against a percieved threat to their way of life.
